1.1. Calling into question the approach to sustainable development
The concept of sustainable development arose in the 1970s when the release in 1972 of the

report, “Stop Growth?” written by the Club of Rome , who highlighted the importance of
establishing ecological limits on economical growth and demographics, and with this, the
goal of reducing exploitation without limits on natural resources.
From the first world summit in 1972, the international community has united in Stockholm

for the United Nations Conference on the human environment , prioritising the ecological
systems and the importance of fighting against pollution have been of precedence. It is also

on this occasion that the United Nations programme for the environment was created .
Le concept of continuous, viable development or sustainable which it appeared as in 1987 in

the text of the Brundtland report under the title “Our Common Future” . This report was
developed by the worldwide commission on the environment and development, written by
Ms Gro Harlem Brundtland, as a result of several debates on the problems posed by
