EL ETAT DE LOS DERECHOS HUMANOS EN EL DESARROLLO SOSTENIBLE
The international instruments of sustainable development, like in the case of the Rio

Declaration on the environment and development et L’Agenda 21 , suggested some formulas,
like those adopted in an integrated approach, rational use, internalisation of costs, better
information for the public, but the first objective being the economic growth seems to empty

a sense of possible conciliation between the economy, society and the environment . The
discussion becomes stagnant as it stays at the same barriers since the beginning, as indicated
in the new programme for sustainable development on the 2030 horizon adopted by the
United Nations in 2015, which always strives to reconcile the three dimensions of
276
sustainable development, be it the economy, the society and the environment . It remains
to be seen if the planet will succeed in achieving this in the future, especially when economic
growth is one of the objectives to be attained by 2030: “We hope for a world in which each

country rejoices in sustainable economical growth, inclusive and lasting (…)” . How can we
grow without limits when our natural resources are limited?
Sustainable development is equally criticised because of its anthropocentric and Universalist
character, taking into account that this concept does not consider cultural differences that
exist between people:
