EL ETAT DE LOS DERECHOS HUMANOS EN EL DESARROLLO SOSTENIBLE
Bruntland report marks an important point in the process of awareness of the value of
preserving a habitable ecosystem, in which we all fit. A world in which a person´s life of a
different social, economic or linguistic condition is equally worth in dignity as everyone
else´s, and the focus is on satisfying the needs of the present, leaving as a legacy a world
better than the one we received.
1. FOR WHAT WORLD DO WE EDUCATE?
In the present we find ourselves perplexed as to how violence motivated by ideologies,
religious beliefs or cultural patterns, puts the security systems of the countries in check and
challenges them to find effective paths in the politics of foreign relations. When it was
thought that the events of September 11, 2001 would be the most significant, the constant
attacks in Europe show that globalization is not restricted to economic, technological or
scientific aspects and that its effects go beyond the limits of thought. Latin America is not
exempt from this and it anticipates yet another highly challenging decade towards the future.
In this context, the university finds a world that challenges its BEING and in entirety, its
role. The university affirms itself from its ACTIONS to situations like the ones mentioned
above and many others that go beyond social life. Old problems that humanity has not
resolved constitute an increasingly complex and demanding scenario for education in the
establishment of the university's DUTY/ BEING.
