ÉTAT DE LOS DERECHOS HUMANOS EN LAS RELACIONES FAMILIARES
National Security
Among the obligations of the President, by virtue of Article 89, section VI of the General
Constitution of the Republic (2015), highlights "to preserve national security, in terms of the
respective law"; This duty is regulated by the National Security Law, published in the Official
Gazette of the Federation on January 31, 2005. In accordance with article 3 of this legal
system, national security is understood as:
[...] actions intended immediately and directly to maintain the integrity, stability and
permanence of the Mexican State, leading to:
The protection of the Mexican nation against the threats and risks that our country
faces;
The preservation of national sovereignty and independence and the defense of the
territory;
The maintenance of the constitutional order and the strengthening of the democratic
institutions of government;
The maintenance of the unity of the constituent parts of the Federation indicated in
article 43 of the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States;
The legitimate defense of the Mexican State with respect to other States or subjects of
international law, and
The preservation of democracy, founded on the social and political economic
development of the country and its inhabitants.
